Elswhere from Travels in Booland has tagged me! I must propagate a meme! I will answer the call as best I can. It's about music. Read on if you dare!
1. Total amount of music files on your computer:I can't figure out how to get Windows Media to tell me. A metric ton, is the answer. I went through a period of time last summer when I basically stole all the music from the library and burned it onto my computer, and then burned all my CDs on here as well. When it was all put on my iPod, it was something like 7 solid days worth of music. Oh, I know, I'll check iTunes. Yes. 9.25 gigs of music.
2. The last CD you bought was:
I bought Yo La Tengo's President Yo La Tengo/New Wave Hot Dogs, and also their album Fakebook. Before that... can't remember, but it is a nasty habit of mine. I guess when we buy a house I should inform Amazon that they need to shut down their California operation and not count on me any more.
3. What is the song you last listened to before reading this message?
I am listening to a CD of Bach as interpreted by a jazz musician. I burned it on my computer at my dad's house last summer. Whoever the musician is, I never wrote it down, and it is listed as "Unknown Album" in my WM application. He plays it straight for the first time through, and then starts to slur the notes and go off on tangents.
Also I am listening to the soundtrack to the Spongebob gameboy game that Sophie is playing in the living room, which is incessant and much like a caliope. And will soon make. me. insane. er.
4. Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you.
1. Beethoven's 9th has been the soundtrack I've used to get large chunks of the novel I'm writing onto the page. It makes me feel glorious and important. Who can resist the last movement, when the germans start belting out something about "Laufen Wieder Funken Gruven!" Ode to Joy indeed!
2. I've been listening to Norah Jones' album Feels Like Home quite a bit lately, because it is calming and makes the kids stop fighting in the car. I particularly like the first track.
3. The Flaming Lips' song about "Yoshimi." Sophie and I sing along to it in the car together. We bond over our love for the Lips. I read that they have a new album coming out! I'm so excited, and so is Sophie! Or she would be, if I told her. But since she doesn't really understand "next week" or "right now" as different concepts, I won't.
4. George Harrison's greatest hits album. It makes me feel like there is hope for the world.
5. A Sugar album, Copper Blue. It's great music for walking to pick up Eliz. It has a grindy whiney thing that I love.
5. Who are you going to pass this stick to? (3 persons) and why?
Pam, because I want to know. Ricky, though I don't know if he is the meme type, though I do know that I like his taste in music from what he puts on his site. And Keith, just because I want to know, and besides, he doesn't have good internet yet in his new/old house, and needs to sit around composing long posts about his music. But actually there are more people. Like Tonya and Margaret. Badger. Barak! Squid, because although I know she has very similar taste to mine, she always finds those cool albums that I haven't heard of.
Gosh, Jo, you'll be my first meme.

Thank you! My curiosity is assuaged. And you have such cool and eclectic taste!
Also-- that was my first trackback; now I feel like a rock star.

"Laufen Wieder Funken Gruven!" I like that. I'll sing it like that next time. Much more fun than "Freude, schöner Götterfunken, Tochter aus Elysium, wir betreten feuertrunken, Himmlische, dein Heiligtum."
Easy for me to say, I know. :^)
