I have that sick-at-heart feeling that one gets from driving around for half an hour listening to republicans on the radio. Yes, as a special treat to us all, both NPR stations are broadcasting the hearings on Alberto Gonzalez. My brain! It hurts! It's becoming... more... and more... LIBERAL! HELP!
Hearing them talk about how "Terrorists aren't subject to the Geneva Convention" makes me absolutely sick. Okay, yeah, maybe they aren't... technically. But the thing is! What is it that you are saying instead? That it's okay to torture people? Who may or may NOT be part of Al Qaida? That you can say that anyone, ANYONE is a terrorist, and thereby subject them to horrifying violence?
Is this a comforting thought?
How have they sold out their own humanity? In the name of what? Power? Money? Party loyalty? Who the fuck are these guys, these Senators? They crawled up from hell, I think.
Not to be a pessimist (but I will be), but you are supposing that these people possessed humanity in the first place, Jo. I posit that, had true humanity ever been a part of their make-up, they would have never given it up for such paltries as money or power or party loyalty.
Perhaps I'm being harsh, but such people make me incredibly furious. So much -- it -- the -- flames -- flames -- on the side of my face -- breathing -- heaving breaths --
